Firefox 1.06 + Tab Mix Plus 0.2.4 Beta not working

July 21st, 2005, 19:23

Today I did a complete re-install of Firefox, because some time ago one of the extensions I’ve installed wrecked the ‘Uninstall’ option so I couldnt re-install extensions any more (the Extension List-window showed ‘This item is getting uninstalled after you restart Firefox’ all the time, ignoring if FF was restarted even on the x-th try). I installed the latest FF-version, in English, because I a) dislike the German translation (eg. partially very clumsy names for menu entries, etc.) and b) am used to work with the English one.

I’ve been using Tab Mix for about 4 months, since I’ve found out about it being way more enhanced than Tab X and Tab X Ultra, which I’ve been using since its first release. Some days ago, Firefox told me it couldnt find the server where the updates of Tab Mix should be located, so I’ve searched the net and found out about Tab Mix Plus (TMP) - yesterday I experimentally gave it a try (with 1.0.4) and it worked quite properly.

Today, like I said before, I did this complete re-install, including wiping my HDD from any old FF traces, having to download/install all the extensions all over again (local installation using Mr Tech’s Local Install 3.0.0 Beta 9). TMP went in, too (version 0.2.4 Beta). About half an hour ago I found out about a bug: the hotkey-based switching back and forth between tabs didnt work any more. I’m using this quite often when I’m doing some work for my job (eg. creating a new website), so I first thought there was something wrong with my keyboard, or some bloody windump shit like it sometimes is when FF or any other bigger app crashes, but later on, I realized it must be one of the tab focused extensions. After disabling and later on uninstalling the QuickTabPrefToggle extension, which didnt result in getting back my hotkey navigation, I concluded it must be the very beta Beta code of TMP that was causing this troubles. I’ve uninstalled it, looked its homepage up and found this nice note about ‘having problems with links in firefox 1.0.5′. I’ve downloaded that version (0.2.3.1) this note linked to - and my hotkeys work again! ;)

Quick round up:

  1. Uninstall TMP 0.2.4 beta if you’re getting into the same troubles as me
  2. Install TMP 0.2.3.1 instead (over here or to be found on its homepage)
